Directions to The Rose Mine Claim
The Rose claimsite consists of forty acres, including a previously mined quarry, extending over to Willow Creek on the west side of the claim. The claimsite is especially easy to access, being only 160 feet off AZ Hwy 88, and there are roads and trails left over from the old mining days which makes it fairly easy to get around on the claimsite.
Directions to The Rose from the Apache Junction area begin with exiting Hwy 60 at Idaho Road (exit 196) which is the junction for AZ Hwy 88. Follow Hwy 88 north for approximately two miles, to where the road turns to the right in a northeast direction. From that point, drive approximately 11.5 miles, still on Hwy 88, to the claim.
The entrance to the claimsite is on the opposite side of the road, on the left or west side. Hwy 88 is fairly straight at this point, after coming out of a few winding curves. Probably the best landmark to search out is a chalky white hill on the left side of the road, which is a bare zeolite deposit.
Across from it, back across the road and on the right shoulder, look for the pull off area on the right, where you can get off the road and stop. Then look back across the road for the driveway that goes into the property, where there is room to park if you get turned around and come back to that spot.
The Northeast corner of the claim is 160 feet in from Hwy 88 and you should be able to spot a wooden monument stake in the area, identifying this corner of the claim - click here for a photo.
After walking into the claim a short distance, you'll come onto an old road that runs south, to the left, into the main quarry and claimsite.
X-Ray Diffraction analysis shows the white rock in the quarry is 95% Clinoptilolite, one of the most important members of the zeolite family, used in many industrial applications. Although some portions of the claim were mined in 1957, thousands of tons of high grade Clinoptilolite are still available.
